This is our interview series where we bring you the nurseries and kid rooms of successful designers, entrepreneurs and moms. Through this series, our featured guests will divulge some of their design secrets and share stories of how their nurseries came to be.
In this week’s feature, we go behind the scenes with someone who runs the “behind the scenes” for many successful businesses serving today’s parents. Sabina Gault is the CEO of Konnect PR, an award-winning public relations agency specializing in baby and children’s products. Their clients range from pre-pregnancy and maternity to toddler and teen products. Konnect is based in sunny Los Angeles, and they work with a variety of brands from Lakeshore, Boba and Nuna to Ubbi, Pearhead and The Goddard School.
Sabina is originally from Romania and has been in PR for over twelve years now. After her full devotion to her family and career, we learned that Sabina loves traveling all over the world. We’re certain that knowing six different languages helps her with that!
My husband and I decided to be surprised about the sex of the baby, but with that, we had to make sure that the nursery would be appropriate for both genders. In choosing a color scheme, we decided on matching the nursery to the style of our house and living. We live on the beach in Southern California, where it is almost always sunny and fun. The main color of the nursery was a pale beautiful glowing yellow. To complement this, we chose very light greens. We kept the nursery simple with white furniture and clean hardwood floors that featured a round accent rug.
I feel that, these days, moms-to-be are all about Pinterest ideas and design-driven nurseries. I love Pinterest too and am quite an avid pinner. However, I think a nursery is meant to be a personal space, somewhere where you can bond with your baby. It’s somewhere you can feel happy in those early days of 2 and 4 and 6 am feedings. It’s a place that makes you smile and be comfortable no matter the time of day. Don’t forget these elements of comfort and personalization—how many hours are you going to sit in that chair that does not rock or glide? Are you going to be okay with your baby crawling on the rug or will it be too rough and hard?
I am stoked about starting to design my son’s room. In a couple of months, we are going to move him into a room down the hall across from my daughter, and I cannot wait to start getting that room ready. It is currently a guest bedroom, and while it’s a super fun room (it has two balconies both with ocean views) and a simple Asian-inspired look, I’m looking forward to changing it around to a great boy’s room. We’ll probably stick to the white furniture, but we’ll add some nice brown accents to match the hardwood floors and closet doors, which are dark brown and heavy wood.
Do you know of a fantastic nursery or big kid’s room designed by a successful designer or business owner? Please send a photo of the room to Adrienne@ProjectNursery.com for consideration.
